Department of Computer and Information Sciences

Computer Laboratory

Welcome to the Department of Computer and Information Sciences. The Department started in 2019, the same year, the University commenced its official operations, with Professor Charles K. Ayo and Mr. Omosebi Adeoye Paul as its pioneer faculty. In 2020, Dr. Akputu Oryina Kingsley joined the University and became the first substantive Ag. Head of the Department. The department runs two undergraduate programmes, leading to the degrees of B.Sc. Computer Science and B.Sc. Information Technology, both of which have been approved by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).

The curriculum for each programme is carefully structured to provide a thorough training and lay a solid foundation to the fundamental principles and practice of Computing. This is complimented with a plethora of electives courses that allow the students to apply their training to a wide variety of fields. Based on the programmes structure, the first two years of study cover the core contents and materials we believe all undergraduates of any computing degree should know. The third and fourth years give the student the flexibility to tailor their learning towards their specific interest.

Our programmes are broad, which means that the skills the student acquire will enable them relevant to any industry where computing plays an important part. Another unique aspect of our programmes is that we emphasis both theory and practice. Theory without practice is empty but, also practice without theory is misguided and incomplete. So, we believe that giving the students the foundation in both, enables them go on to either develop or contribute to important industrial applications or advance the frontiers of knowledge in their chosen carriers in computing.
