The new students of the Trinity University have been enjoined to live responsibly and have faith in God, as they embark on a new journey of their lives.
The Pro-chancellor and chairman, Governing council of the institution, Samuel Olatunji, who gave the advice during the matriculation of 240 new intakes of the university, at the weekend, called on the parents to ensure their wards are well equipped with everything needed to begin the journey.
Delivering her matriculation lecture titled: ‘Accountability and the Future of the Nigerian State,’ the President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Mrs Comfort Olu-Eyitayo, tasked the students on the principle of accountability.
Represented by a Professor of Accounting and Strategic Financial Management at Babcock University, Rufus Akintoye, Olu-Eyitayo explained that accountability is very critical if any future event is to be actualised.
She said the students who often make it in life are accountable to their parents, lecturers, and the community they are living.
The ICAN President noted that by way of being accountable is for the students to obey rules and regulations within the institution and prepare themselves because at the end of every semester, what they have done will be accounted for, which is examination.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Ayo, canvassed for skills relevant to the world of work in the higher institutions. He noted that university certificates would not be enough in meeting with the standard of the fourth industrial revolution, adding that practical skills should be given priority in the higher education curriculum.
